Instrument Classes, Vocal Classes,
Dance Classes & Bulgarian Language Classes
The Bulgarian Folk Music and Dance Seminar 2005, August 8-13
2005, is designed for non-Bulgarians desiring a more in-depth
learning opportunity than is normally afforded to groups or
individuals traveling to Bulgaria. The program accomplishes
this by taking advantage of the wealth of expertise that exists
at the Music Academy in Plovdiv, and the Academy's strong connection
to tradition bearers throughout Bulgaria.
Our objective is to present instructors who have not previously
taught outside Bulgaria and and to have multiple instructors
and English language assistants for each class. For example,
we are making arrangements to have each music class (instrument
and vocal) be co-presented by guest "old masters"
who have their own regional/local repertoire (but are generally
not accustomed to teaching) and faculty of the Music Academy
(who are accustomed to teaching). We expect that each "old
master" will only be present at the seminar for part of
the time, but long enough to impart some of their unique skill,
knowledge and experience. The same concept will also be true
of the folk dance classes where staff and assistants of the
Music Academy will work with master dancers from different parts
of the country to present authentic dance material.
