Every
5 years, the picturesque town of Koprivshtitsa, located in the
central part of Bulgaria in the Stara Planina, hosts the largest
of Bulgaria’s many folk festivals. The best village folklore
groups from all over Bulgaria present traditional song, music,
dance and customs representing their own local traditions. Held
on numerous stages running concurrently on a hill high above
the town, the festival offers a tempting sample of the richness
of Bulgarian folklore. But it lasts only 4 days…and then
it is gone.
For years, many folk music and dance enthusiasts traveling
to Bulgaria have wished for a way to experience Bulgarian
music and dance at a deeper level. Now there is a way to do
that.
This marks the first year that the Academy of Music, Dance
& Fine Arts in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, will host an exciting
new program oriented toward the interests of non-Bulgarians
who wish to further their knowledge and skills in traditional
Bulgarian music and dance.
